The Aquila Pond ReviewThis was a very interesting and entertaining book. It kept me glued to the pages from cover to cover. I look forward to the next work of art from this author!!The Aquila Pond OverviewIt seemed slow at first. The world was falling away. How could the water just below him be this far away? Then Percival felt a smack and the encompassing grasp of the water as he dissolved into it. The cool liquid embrace was such a precious comfort though it quickly faded. He exhaled through his nose, bubbles rolled out across his face then up through his wavering hair. The water then split and peeled from him as if he were coming up for air only he was going down, this sensation was accentuated by his continued falling. No longer floating in a peaceful pool Percival was now free falling, nearly stripped of all his water. The last few beads were pulled through his hair by the air he forcefully made his way through. He would not open his eyes, there was no need, nor did he dare, the chill of the atmosphere and stink of hydrogen sulfide were evidence enough to him. He was falling, dropping from the highest heights and soon he would crash to bottom of the abyss. He careened through thin grey clouds contrasted by a sky that blandly encompassed them with a grey only a few shades lighter. He could feel the dampness in the air from the rising and noxious gasses of the place, felt them condensing on him and adding to the chill. He could sense the end of his fall coming, the sound thinned, the dampness climaxed then let up, the atmosphere thickened. It was as if he could hear the bottom approaching. The sound built then with a harsh thump he met the ground. He landed fiercely, impressing the ground as they met. Loose soil plumed up around him then settled back down messily coating him. With great effort and great pain shallow breath flowed through his lungs, semiconscious he lie not moving and indeed it would be some time before he mustered the conviction for any activity. Coming back to himself he began regulating his breathes and gave attempt at opening his left eye as the right was trapped against the dirt. And it was dirt that he saw, granules of varying grey and varying size. He stared at the dirt thinking of nothing, comprehending nothing. Soon he battled his thoughts out of the realm of comfortable non-existence, that realm in which it was simply him and the grey and everything else was of no bother to them.Percival gave his head a turn to free his face from the ground; he had achieved full sight but still lacked the fortitude to brush the imbedded bits of stone from his face. The focus of his eyes shifted from the dirt immediate to the far off horizon to which he was parallel. Percival pulled his arms back in around his body and planted his hands open in the ground at his shoulders. His elbows pointed up to the sky and he had turned his face back into the ground, his forehead firmly planted into it. A tearing pain carried through his muscles as he applied them to lifting himself off the ground. Once he reached all fours Percival sat holding the position, weakness and fatigue were taunting his effort, leaving his hands and shoulders to quiver while his neck left his head to hang loosely between his shoulders.Nausea was welling from this strenuous effort; he let his mouth open discharging the bile of his empty stomach, afterward spitting loose the stubborn strings of blood and dirt that clung around his lips. Bringing his tongue to his lips to help with the disconnect effort he found most of his teeth had been dislodged. For a moment of natural habit his eyes scanned for his teeth but he soon came to irritation, cursing the effort and his missing teeth alike, proclaiming them to be of no use to him. He returned to the gathering of his thoughts and strength. Percival settled back resting his rear on his heels and writhed his torso from its sluggish position to one that left him slightly favoring his left. Still without the strength to lift it, his head just bobbed low around his shoulders. This position forced a review of what he had become.Want to learn more information about The Aquila Pond?
