Atlanta's Stone Mountain: A Multicultural History (GA) ReviewI visit Stone Mountain Park several times a week. It is one of my favorite places, and I am thrilled Hudson and Mirza have written a book on it.Although I consider myself a mini-expert on the park, I learned a lot and enjoyed the many black-and-white and color photographs. The book is particularly good at describing the trails and mountain. It also delves into historical sidelights such as Shermantown, the Ku Klux Klan, native Americans, the Civil War, and the Confederate carving.
I would have preferred more history than guide book. It's a slight book with a lot of emphasis on the attractions. In fact, it's a celebration of the park and is guilty of too many exclamation marks and other boosterism. Since it is so much about the contemporary park, it would have been useful to have maps included.
Still, this book is a fine achievement and an enjoyable read.
