Pond Yachts: How to Sail and Build Them ReviewWow. What a great book! I've spent many hours reading "how-to" articles on building projects in magazines like Wooden Boat, Fine Woodworking. In Pond Yachts, the level of detail, information, crisp creative illustrations (in full-color reproduced from original watercolours) make this book a must-have for anyone even remotely interested in how boats are built, why they sail, and how you can build your own.
In particular, the details involved in building a working steering quadrant and other small important parts, while reproduced from a watercolor painting, have never been more clearly laid out for the novice or the experienced. Many of the illustrations have for the first time helped me understand exactly WHY these boats do what they do when released from human contact and allowed to float freely on a body of water.
One particularly groovy feature to this book, which the publisher must have spent a good deal of time thinking about, is the binding. Being spiral bound with a heavy cover, this books lays perfectly FLAT at all times at any page, so I can work on a model and study the drawings without having to prop the book open or crack a spine.
