Steven Moffat's Doctor Who 2010: The Critical Fan's Guide to Matt Smith's First Series (Unauthorized) ReviewI was a bit hesitant in buying this book, but after I bought it I'm really glad I did. The authors pointed out many things I had missed in the first viewing, causing me to run back and watch them again.
I also enjoyed the two points in time for when the reviews were written. One author wrote his reviews right after each episode aired. This made his reviews very fresh, since he'd seen them with new eyes. His reviews very much had the excitement of "gee I wonder what's gonna happen next" in them.
The second author wrote his reviews after all the episodes had been aired. Thus he had the benefit of knowing the overall story arc. This allowed him to identify things in the early episodes that might not have seemed important at the time, but having hindsight were now brought to the surface.
I also appreciated the reference back to episodes from the previous doctors, stories or plots that had some bearing, or at least similarity to the episode being reviewed. I took many of the recommendations and watched them back to back with the new series episode.
