Sunday sailors: A beginner's guide to pond boats & model yachting until the 1950s ReviewI'm not sure what I expected, but considering how expensive this book is on the used book market ($150+) perhaps my expectations became inflated. While this is a nice book, it's really nothing special. It starts out well enough with a history of model yachting with various rigs and steering gear descriptions.
But at page 41 it becomes more or less a collector's guide to ready made pond boats, alphabetically listed by manufacturer with many small photos.
At page 57 the author catalogs various personalities, again alphabetically, with brief bios. And so it goes for the rest of the book, lots of listings and photos. Pages 81-104 contain color photos of pond boats, four photos to a page.
So as a model yachtsman, I was pretty disappointed. But perhaps this book may be of real interest to toy boat collectors because of the photos.Sunday sailors: A beginner's guide to pond boats & model yachting until the 1950s Overview
